Twin Cities homeowners can often combine up to three kinds of savings: utility rebates, current Midland promotions, and financing that spreads the cost over time. Here's how each works — and where to confirm the current details, because amounts and deadlines change.
Minnesota utility rebates
Minnesota utilities run rebate and efficiency programs for qualifying high-efficiency HVAC equipment. Amounts and qualifying models change from year to year, so check the current program for your address and utility:
- Xcel Energy (electricity) — rebates for qualifying high-efficiency cooling and heat-pump equipment: xcelenergy.com.
- CenterPoint Energy (natural gas) — rebates for qualifying high-efficiency furnaces and other gas equipment: centerpointenergy.com.
- Minnesota Home Energy Rebates — the state runs home energy rebate programs through the Minnesota Department of Commerce; availability and amounts depend on program status and household eligibility: mn.gov/commerce.
Most rebates require equipment that meets a specific efficiency tier — another reason to understand SEER2, HSPF2 and AFUE ratings before you buy.
What about federal tax credits?
The federal energy-efficiency tax credits that once applied to HVAC upgrades ended on December 31, 2025, so don't plan a 2026 project around one.
